Colorado's Second Parent Adoption
Colorado has a new law allowing a second parent to adopt a child who only has one legal parent. This law will benefit children by allowing them to have two legal parents. Gay and lesbian couples are not the only ones who can benefit from this new law--The children's grandmother or uncle could adopt as a second parent. This law protects the rights, as well as obligations, of the second parent. This law is effective August 8, 2007. However, there are background checks and other preparations, so get started now. We can help you determine how the new law will help your situation. |
